So it's been pretty much a year since the last post on here, not including that blawg one I had to move, I hope you all have a nice summery Christmas as last years had pretty horrible weather here.
And now to consume my body weight in ham and eat the kilo of Wonkas candy my girlfriend got me. Don't consume too much my pets, hopefully you are as fortunate as me and have a hospital 2 minutes away to have your stomach pumped.
Also you should all acquire Elvis Presley's Christmas Duets for some Christmas cheer.
We needed something refreshing on here to celebrate the coming and the going of 2007. Hooray for us we have survived another year, also no hack attempts were successful, perhaps because we don't cause shenanigans on other forums these days.
I really wish I could pad this out more, but I can't really think of anything to say. My new year was great, plenty of guitar hero was played. I hope this year the forum will contain more than birthday threads!
I filmed these videos outside of the Herald Weekly Times/IBM towers along Southbank where I work after a false alarm evacuation on Friday. They had some sort of busk off and the loser had to walk the Rove set nude.
- Article here and thanks to the people there that didn't mention someone else took the footage. ggwdgf
Some videos of the rove show are linked - here, you might see my head in the longer one, well .. my cap .. the blue one
Ah, went to the Muse concert in Melbourne and it was great. Festival hall on the 31st (pewp venue) and it was awesome, a lot better in the non drinking section with seats then standing around for hours with all the drunken jerks on the floor. I think my ears are still ringing, I recorded a decent amount of the concert and the sound quality is really good compared to some other peoples recordings on youtube. I've uploaded one clip and I'll probably do a few more later on.
It is that time once again. The time when Santa visits and eats your cookies and drinks your milk. The time when the only thing better than giving presents, is unwrapping that really awesome one you bought for yourself. The time when you have to wear those ridiculous paper hats from inside christmas crackers because it's tradition no matter how silly they look *shakes fist.
Seriously though, i hope everyone here and those who stop by, a very merry christmas. May the holiday bring good cheer and good fortune to you and those you care about.
I've decided to post this thread in the news section because some of you may consider my first post in a long time news indeed.
Anyhoo I thought I'd pop in and shed some light on my doings over the past seasons. I've kept in contact a bit with Nuff and still have a ventricle reserved in my heart for the rest of you.
As most of you probably know, I'm still managing the nightclub in Sydney. I've actually become the Licensee in the last 6 months which is supposedly a big thing, but hasn't really affected my work load; probably because I work for a professional and legitimate owner, so there is never any hassles I have to deal with in terms of the law. Things are going really well, I love my job, and my boss has looked after me very well and I'm very lucky to be where I am. Between us, we organise all the promoters and DJs, staff, stock, sponsorship, and everything else involved with running a nightclub. I have a huge responsibility in terms of managing everything, but it's not a large corporate environment and I get on well with my boss so I can do things the way I want and suggest things in a more personal way rather than suffering the bullshit of Human Resources and so on. On the actual nights we are open, which is Friday to Sunday, I do the door, letting people in or turning others away. My boss has had the club for 17 years and has a strict door policy which I abide by, and have created a safe and fun environment for our clients. We never have had a major fight, stabbing, shooting, abuse, or any other terrible thing happen that you read about in media at other clubs.. My bosses brother just opened his nightclub in Paddington, and I helped him organise all the stock and set up the bar. It was a huge job and I'm stoked that he asked me to help him. It's a really nice place, kind of like a restaurant/bar, but premium establishment with high class clientele. I'm really lucky to have fallen in with these guys, they consider me a good friend and there have been preliminary discussions of an arrangement forming whereby the transfer of ownership of one of the clubs would fall to me.. But that's a story for another day
I moved out.. I'm living in a small and simple apartment in Surry Hills, not far from the city or work at all. It's a brand new apartment, but very small, but it suits me well. I'm single and looking forward to Summer both in terms of work and play. Haven't really used the computer much like I used to, I'm out of touch with the latest technology and games... I miss those times. I sold my 300zx, and have my little Ford Laser of Doom back which is perfect for me to duck in and out of the city when I need to.
I haven't got any photos of the system my brother inlaw devised, but its pretty much a launch pad he welded up at work with a connection so the compressor in his car that he normally uses for his tyres on trips to fill up the bottle with air.
We fill the bottle about 1/3 of the way with water and hold it on there until its sides start to stretch under the pressure of the air. Then yank on the release cable that undoes that clamp that holds the bottle from flying into the air as you can see in the below movie. There are 3 more links under that for some other video footage I took of different launches.
Now to get back to studying on how to make a better rocket, we're thinking about plastic welding a small hose nossel to the bottom because the water seems to escape way too fast.
Haven't posted much since the Coldplay concert, I've been too busy dreaming of eating watermelon and lusting over my plans to destroy all female 'comedians'. Also it doesn't help that I'm not very creative at all, I will sum up some things that I've been thinking about recently.
I went to the Coldplay concert last night, I took about 100 or so photographs but very few turned out, we were 5 rows from the center arena bit around the middle or so of the building so it was pretty good viewing but poor for photographs, my girlfriend went on the first night and was in the first row of general admission and got some nice photos, but she mostly took video footage.
Start of the concert, timer going down while he starts singing Square One, when it hits zero they start rocking then it counts upwards to the next song or something.
Guy keyboarding it up.
Wide angle lens pwning it up, that's how far away we were. Could see them quite nicely (much better then the pic as it's resized)
Jam sucka!
Chris acting like some sort of plane.
I think this was taken from one of the songs from the encore, one of which was that Kylie Minogue song can't get you out of my head. He dedicated a song to the 'cool man' that named the street we were on "Batman Avenue".
Bowing after the show
There are probably more photos that turned out pretty good, I will go through them Wednesday night when I am home. We had an awesome time
Well, it's here again. The event that rolls around every 4 years, that promises so much and delivers so little to the frustrated Italians like yours truly, but this time, we have the Aussies to support along the way too, and not before time. Can Australia pull off a minor miracle and get out of the group with Brazil in it - will they eliminate Italy in the next phase? Yes, and no, because Italy will be out before that after defending a 1-1 scoreline in a game they have to win - their trademark major tournament tactic.
Ah well. As long as Germany don't win....or Brazil....or England....or Argentina....or Holland....or the hilariously 4th world ranked USA. Or anyone that's not Italy or Australia.
Due to various goings on in Italian football at the moment, my enthusiasm about the whole thing was fairly muted in the last few months, but you can't help but get sucked into it...I mean, it starts tomorrow. A day of work, and it's there. Then all things are forgiven, like telling some guy asking for a discount to bugger off, which can be put down to a month of no sleep (and if/when - ok, when - it happens, it will be put down to that, I guarantee it).
Post your tips chaps. Brazil are going to be hard to beat. Ridiculously hard to beat. Then again, they weren't the best team four years ago either, and all things considered, should not have won that tournament. So anything can happen, and at the World Cup, it usually does.
Personal tip for the trophy is Argentina. They're long, long overdue a major success, and they have arguably the greatest pool of young talent in the world - even greater than Brazil's at this point in time. They might not have the established stars like Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, but in players like Messi, they have the potential to be even better. Holland are in the same boat, a young team full of talent that if taken lightly, have the potential to cut you to shreds, but aren't quite as talented as the Argies. Will the raft of rule changes throw these predictions out of wack when bizarre interpretations of existing rules start seeing people sent off at the drop of a hat? Who knows - whatever the case, I'm glad it's back in Europe, and hope the unpredictability has nothing to do with refereeing and all to do with some classic matches.
Why we’re releasing our latest album for free on the Internet
In preparing to self-release our new album, we thought long and hard about how best to use the internet. Given our unusual history, and a long-held sense that the practice now being demonized by the music biz as “illegal” file sharing can be a friend to the independent musician, we have decided to embrace the indisputable fact of music in the 21st century, put our money where our mouth is, and make our record, Little By Little…, available for download via Bittorrent, and at our website. We’re not streaming, or offering 30-second song samples, or annoying you with digital rights management software; we’re putting up the whole record, for free, forever. Full stop. Please help yourself; if you like it, please share with friends.
Of course, the CD will also be for sale on the site, as well as in fine independent record stores across the country, in a deluxe package that includes a 30-minute bonus disc that serves as a companion piece to the record proper (retail price for the package is $11.99).
We embark on this experiment with both enthusiasm and curiosity—and, ok, maybe a twinge of anxiety. Why are we doing this? The short answer is simply that we want a lot of people to hear the record.
Although i don't really have much love for the supposed celebrations that occur today i do have a lot of love for Australia and also public holidays. So on this day of beer and (apparently) lamb we should all be thankful for the fact that Australia is pretty excellent and obviously superior to New Zealand.
As this thread on jademonkeys suggests, theogr.org is back. Seeing as I am a moderator there now (muhaha puny humans, I will destroy you!) it is my obligation to 'pimp' the website.
I so suggest you assholes sign up, otherwise someone is going to get hurt reaaal bad.
